Phosphorous Essential to the growth and health of plants. It assists in converting the sun’s energy and other chemicals, such as nitrogen, into usable food for plants. It functions as one of the major players in the process of photosynthesis, nutrient transport, and energy transfer. Phosphorus also affects the plant’s structure at a cellular level. Potassium Important for flowering and fruiting plants. Potassium controls the stomata, the plant cells that use water. Without enough potassium, the stomata do not efficiently use water and the plant is not able to withstand dehydration or wind. Stressed plants will bloom poorly and will produce sub-standard fruit.
